Announcing an opportunity for:
NABCEP-certified Solar PV and Solar Thermal installers
Solarize Tompkins SE is excited to announce a community-based campaign to promote the adoption of solar electric and solar thermal systems for homes, farms, and businesses in Caroline, Dryden, and Danby. We are seeking qualified installers to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Solarize campaign is a grassroots effort to help residents overcome the financial and logistical hurdles of installing to solar power. We will simplify the process by organizing a large group of interested property-owners and selecting qualified contractors to insure an efficient process and quality product. Installers get to spend less time on sales and presentations to individual customers and will be able to purchase panels in much larger quantities. The resulting reduction in costs and simplified decision-making process work to encourage folks to take the leap to solar.
The Solarize program is based on a successful model developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (www.nrel.gov/docs/fy12osti/54738.pdf). In just the past few years, successful Solarize campaigns have spread from Oregon, to Washington, and just last year, Madison County, New York. The success of these campaigns shows that the simple principles of Solarize are common sense solutions to stimulating the renewable energy transition. We're going to be the next community to make a decisive move toward a sustainable future.
Three essential elements of the Solarize model are:
1. Competitive contractor selection (NB: we will be inviting proposal submissions from collaborating teams of installers, as well as individual companies).
2. Community-led outreach with a trusted community partner.
3. A limited-time offering.
We will be issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) on February 18 for design and installation of Solar PV and Solar Thermal systems, with both purchase and lease options. Once the RFP is issued, questions should be submitted in writing by email to the Project Manager through March 1st; questions and responses will be posted by March 8. To maintain fairness in the selection process, personal contacts with the Project Manager after RFP release are grounds for disqualification.
